Smart SMEs on Export Success

Increasing exports is the key to the future success of the ICT industry.

The latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows that the Australian ICT industry has annual imports of $15.1billion and exports of $4.6 billion. With a trade deficit of more than $10 billion, the challenge and the opportunity for the ICT industry rests with expanding export potential.

iAwards: Rewarding Effort in the Not-for-Profit Arena

The iAwards is not just for ICT companies.

Last year, not-for-profit organisation The Smith Family outstripped the competition to receive the Software iMPLEMENTATION iAward for most effective use of ICT to improve business outcomes.

According to Suresh Rao, The Smith Family’s National IT Manager, their award “let the rest of the world know that the not-for-profit sector can do things just as well, and sometimes better than other sectors.”

CSIRO ICT Centre to Present New iAward for Individual Achievement

The CSIRO ICT Centre, together with AIIA, is pleased to announce an exciting new award category to be presented at this year’s iAwards.

The CSIRO Award for Individual Achievement in ICT will be awarded annually to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the Australian ICT industry, in either in a single, high-impact initiative or in a long-term series of successes.

AIIA Chairman John Price.AIIA’s Board of Directors met in Adelaide on 17 February.

After twelve years on the Board, I have participated in many planning sessions, and know from experience that each AIIA Board strategy meeting has a different energy and focus. Sometimes the focus has been on incremental changes, other times it has been far-reaching and visionary.

CIOs to Focus on Improving Business Processes in 2005

The priorities of CIOs will shift in 2005 from cost reduction to improving business processes, says leading analyst, Bob Hayward from Gartner Group.

Speaking at AIIA Business Briefings in Brisbane on 22 February and Sydney on 24 February, Mr Hayward said that Gartner’s research indicates that CIOs are “leading a transformation from enablement to contribution.”
