AIIA Wins Funds to Develop Local Software Industry Capability

AIIA has been awarded a cash fund by the Board of Software Engineering Australia (National) Limited, (S:E:A) to build momentum for the Association's work supporting Australian software SMEs.

S:E:A's Board recently announced its decision to sell the commercial operations and assets of the organisation in order to maximise a cash fund that would be granted to a like-minded organisation. AIIA was selected as the organisation most capable of using the funds to deliver benefits to the Australian software industry in line with S:E:A's objectives.

AIIA's Salary Survey Contradicts Wage Increase Predictions

Despite the talk of skills shortages and skyrocketing salaries, the ICT industry jobs market has remained stable over the past twelve months.

Results from AIIA's latest Survey of Salaries and Remuneration Packaging in the Australian ICT Industry showed average base salary increases of 3.8% over the period March 2004 to March 2005, a modest increase which contradicts the predictions of a sharp surge in wages to meet skills shortages across the sector.

2005 iAwards Set for Success

AIIA is delighted with the number of nominations received for this year’s iAwards.

According to AIIA’s Chief Executive Officer, Rob Durie, the 2005 iAwards is set to be the most successful in the programme’s nine-year history. “The response to this year’s call for nominations cements the iAwards as the ICT industry’s premier awards event,” Mr Durie says.

The Scoop from CeBIT 2005

CeBIT, the world's biggest electronics fair, concluded on 16 March amid growing optimism in the global ICT sector.

CeBIT 2005 registered more trade visitors, more decision-makers, higher visitor traffic at the stands, increased international participation and attendance, and more SMEs and retailers at the show. The rise in exhibitor numbers to 6,270 (compared with 6,109 last year) and projected industry growth of 4.3 percent worldwide are sure signs of an anticipated turnaround in the global ICT market.

Comment from the Chairman: Encouraging Entrepreneurship in ICT

AIIA Chairman John PriceIn August last year, AIIA was awarded more than $240,000 by AusIndustry to finance the AIIA Business Skills for ICT Entrepreneurs program. Just last week, this funding was complemented by the Victorian Government, which announced a further $60,000 towards funding Victorian participants in the program. Read more...
