New CEO for AIIA

AIIA's new CEO, Sheryle MoonAIIA has appointed Sheryle Moon as its new Chief Executive Officer to replace Rob Durie, who leaves the Association in December.

I am thrilled to be here at the AIIA given the importance of the industry for the ongoing prosperity of current and future Australians. Of course ensuring that this is acknowledged by political and community stakeholders is one of my focus areas as the CEO.

Following through on our liability policy win

In August, following sustained pressure from AIIA, the Australian Government agreed to limit suppliers’ liability when selling ICT goods and services to government. This significant win for industry will provide greater opportunities for companies to bid and gain that all-important first government customer.

The change in policy followed the 2004 release of Better Practice, Better Outcomes, AIIA’s report into the effect of government liability policies coupled with a strategic lobbying campaign. The report argued that limiting liability would result in cost savings, improved project management and better project outcomes.

Following the launch of the new liability policy, AIIA’s focus is now to ensure that the policy is well known, understood and implemented in practice.

Australian success at the Asia Pacific Awards in Macau

Australian technology company, SRA Information Technology, won a prestigious merit award at the Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) in Macau on Sunday 5 November. SRA Information Technology represented Australia at the awards following their win at the 2006 iAwards in May, and was pitted against the very best technology companies in the region at the APICTAs.

Leading the ICT business community: AIIA’s new Board of Directors

AIIA has a new Board of Directors, tasked with leading Australia’s information and communication technology (ICT) industry in 2007.

AIIA’s influential Board of Directors sets the strategic direction the ICT industry. The board determines policies and positions on important issues and works with governments, industry and media to improve the business environment for the ICT industry – both locally and on a global stage.

16 of the ICT industry’s business leaders sit on AIIA’s Board of Directors, representing the dynamic and diverse nature of the ICT sector in Australia.

Joining the 8 continuing directors are Microsoft Australia’s Steve Vamos and IBM Australia’s Glen Boreham, who were both re-elected to the board for three-year terms. Ian Birks of Ideas International Limited was also elected to the board for a three-year term, having served previously as an appointed director.

Three appointed directors will also sit on the board: Randy Lynch of Telstra Enterprise and Government, Editure’s Kim Ford and Kee Wong of e-Centric Innovations, who formerly represented AIIA as the Victorian Branch Chair. The appointed directors will serve for 12 months.

Meet the new Board, the new CEO and farewell Rob Durie in Melbourne

On Tuesday 28 November, AIIA will host our final board dinner for 2006.

This event is an important opportunity for you to meet AIIA’s newly elected Board of Directors, and the new Chief Executive Officer, Sheryle Moon.

This may also be your last chance to say farewell to AIIA’s outgoing Chief Executive Officer, Rob Durie, who has represented the Association for more than seventeen years. Rob has many friends in the Victorian ICT industry that we hope to see at the event.
