Gershon Review: open teleconference
Tuesday 27 May 2008

AIIA is organising a conference call roundtable discussion on the Gershon Review on Tuesday 27 May 2008, from 3:00pm to 4:00pm EST - you are welcome to join us.

The discussion will be held by teleconference to allow participation from across Australia. The teleconference will be heavily attended; however there is no restriction on the number of people from your organisation who can listen in.

AIIA will be making a submission to the Gershon Review, and many companies are also considering making an independent submission. AIIA has been approached by a number of members to establish a discussion to assist with the review of relevant issues and to consider the terms of reference.

The discussion will also help to ensure that the scope of AIIA’s submission on behalf of ICT vendors accurately reflects their views, particularly for those companies who will not be making submissions in their own right.

AIIA CEO Ian Birks will convene the teleconference, with help from AIIA state committee representatives with government procurement responsibilities.

To join the teleconference:

AIIA welcomes Federal Budget, presses for stronger focus on business development

AIIA has expressed support for long term initiatives contained in the 2008 Federal Budget that will positively impact upon the ICT sector.

However, AIIA Chief Executive Officer, Ian Birks, said there was a lack of focus on business stimulus across the digital economy, particularly in the context of other key goals outlined in this Budget.

“The digital economy needs to be recognised for the economic contribution it makes in its own right. This is particularly important given ICT’s status as horizontal industry that will underpin many of the government’s aspirations across the wider economy – such as healthcare reform, the education revolution and emissions control,” Mr Birks said.

“Business stimulus across the ICT industry is very important. An innovative and thriving ICT sector will be essential to meeting the future challenges identified by the Rudd Government.”
