The AIIA will soon be holding its annual elections; both for State Committees and for the National AIIA Board. Voting in these elections is open to all full financial members of the AIIA, and all members are encouraged to take part in the elections by voting or standing for an elected position.

Small Business September '08
Small Business September 08, an initiative of the NSW Department of State and Regional Development, is a month dedicated to helping owners and managers of small businesses better grow and manage their business. As part of this initiative, AIIA is producing a specialist event to focus on the challenges faced by SMEs in the ICT industry titled Running an Australian technology company from the CEO perspective, to be held on Wednesday 17 September 2008. This event will be sponsored by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu.

AIIA Prize of Excellence
Queensland Government ICT Career Graduate Development Program
Queensland ICT graduate Travis Malone was recently AIIA Queensland's Prize of Excellence for his dedication and the quality of his work in the Queensland Government ICT Career Graduate Development Program. For his efforts he will receive a world study tour and a wealth of invaluable experience in the in international technology industry.
The Queensland Government ICT Career Graduate Development Program is a cross-Government initiative to recruit recent graduates for information and communication technology careers within the Queensland Government. The program seeks to manage the Government’s demand for ICT skills in the labour market, to secure and develop the right skills now and to meet future requirements.
AIIA has been working closely with the government to develop graduate skills and promote the program. Eligibility for the AIIA Prize of Excellence included ongoing involvement in the ICT Career Graduate Development Program, with scope for short-term opportunities in higher-level roles and participation in the professional development sessions, while delivering a strong performance in the workplace.
“This is a fantastic achievement for Travis and will enhance his knowledge and experience as well as his future career in the ICT industry,” Minister for Public Works, Housing and Information and Communication Technology, the Hon Robert Schwarten said of his achievement.
AIIA Queensland Committee Chair Cathy Ford said that "Travis’s commitment to the Queensland Government ICT Career Graduate Development Program has been outstanding. He has fully immersed himself in the program’s professional development sessions, and was always among the first to get involved in group work and presentation activities, either as a leader or participant."
“The AIIA is pleased to award a world study tour to Travis to further develop his skills in ICT by being able to visit member organisations around the world.”
Travis said he is very much looking forward to undertaking the study tour. “It is a great opportunity for me to better understand the global nature of the ICT industry and I am delighted to represent Queensland,” he said.

.NET clusters at TechEd 2008
Last week in Sydney, under the auspices of AIIA’s CollabIT program, the ICT clusters Canberra.NET, Queensland.NET and NSW.NET organised an opportunity for their members to exhibit over the four days of TechEd, a major conference and exhibition in the Microsoft calendar. The Australia.NET stand comprised four pods, generously made available by Microsoft, enabling .NET cluster members to sign up for half day time slots at a very modest shared cost, for significant returns.

Australian Computers in Education Conference 2008
ACEC is the biennial conference of the Australian Council for Computers in Education. ACEC’08 is being hosted by the Computer Education Group of the ACT in partnership with the association of Catholic and Independent Teacher Librarians. ACEC attracts delegates from all education sectors (tertiary, VET and schools) who have an interest in the use of ICT in education.
