Progress on AIIA/AEEMA Merger
The boards of both AIIA and AEEMA met separately but concurrently last week to discuss the proposed amalgamation of the two associations.
Both boards have expressed a willingness to explore the possible merger further, and were pleased with the progress made so far.
During the past two months, the secretariat teams of both AIIA and AEEMA have worked together on a range of activities, such as fee modelling, market research, legal and financial due diligence, briefing sessions with member companies in the state branches, and direct consultation with representatives from member companies.
The next step will be a joint board meeting, which will be held in Melbourne on Thursday 20 October.
So far, member companies have provided valuable feedback to the secretariat. All questions and issues of concern are currently being addressed in an information sheet which will include a detailed FAQs section. This will be available shortly. AIIA members will receive fortnightly updates in AIIA’s Bulletin, or on the website at www.aiia.com.au.
Both boards have agreed that there is still considerable work to be completed before any proposal can be put to the members for a vote. At this stage, it is envisaged that an Extraordinary General Meeting would be held towards the end of March 2006.
This merger represents a major change for both organisations, but one that is viewed very positively with exciting opportunities for our industry.
Tell us your views on the merger proposal, including what you value most about AIIA and what you would want retained in the new organisation. Email Rob Durie, James McAdam or Madeleine Strachov or phone AIIA’s Secretariat on (02) 6281 9444.
