WCIT 2008 - Malaysia

On May 18-22, 2008, over 2,500 industry captains and global leaders will convene in Kuala Lumpur for the 16th World Congress on Information Technology; the world’s premier ICT event. Often billed as the Olympics of ICT, WCIT brings together the greatest minds to impact global economic and social development through the exchange of policies and ideas on technology.

Themed “The Global Impact of Information and Communications Technology: Enable Businesses, Empower Societies, Enrich Economies”, the five-day event incorporates a three-day congress to address global impact issues, business match-making, an ICT exhibition, a debate on current ICT issues, and activities including tours, a golf tournament, a motorsports experience and a spouse program.

Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said he expects WCIT 2008 to open doors to a host of business and industry opportunities for the private sector both domestic and abroad.  “These are opportunities not to be missed and as such, I encourage you to ensure your involvement in one of industry’s most awaited global events.”

WCIT 2008 is jointly organized by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and the Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry of Malaysia (PIKOM), with the support of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Malaysia.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Dr Craig Barrett, Chairman of Intel Corporation.
  • Douglas Merrill, Chief Information Officer, Google.
  • Dr Robert Atkinson, President of the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation.
  • Wei Chuan Beng, Group Managing Director and co-founder of REDtone.
