On the road with ICT and Sheryle Moon

Greetings from France!
For the last two weeks, I’ve been following the Wallabies on their World Cup quest through France. At the moment, I’m in Spain, and have been marvelling at how technology has radically altered the way we travel.
Of course, we all think of the obvious things – booking flights and accommodation online, researching the best places to go, checking out exhibition opening times and the like. But that’s only the beginning.

SRA Information Technology wins 2007 Telstra Australian Business of the Year and the 2007 AMP National Innovation Award
SRA Information Technology, headquartered in Darwin, and with offices in Adelaide, Canberra and Perth, has won both the 2007 Telstra Australian Business of the Year and the 2007 AMP National Innovation Award.
This follows on from the wins in the Northern Territory with the 2007 Hudson NT Business Award (51-100 employees), the 2007 AMP NT Innovation Award, and the 2007 Telstra NT Business Award.
SRA shared the 2007 Telstra Australian Business of the Year with gourmet food provider, Brookfarm, from New South Wales.
SRA has emerged over the last 15 years to be a provider of corporate software services, and in particular has become recognised as an expert in the provision of natural resource and environmental information management systems.
The 2007 AMP Australian Innovation Award was won for the EnviroSys product, that allows mining and energy businesses, along with governments, infrastructure, water and agricultural industries to capture, monitor, alert, analyse and report on environmental effects. The software covers natural resource management, greenhouse gas emissions and other pollution monitoring activities.
Being awarded the 2007 Telstra Australian Business of the Year was validation in the years of research, development and belief that the SRA team maintained over the 15 years, and drives the confidence that SRA can be a niche international participant in the ICT world.

Creating a greener footprint
AIIA's CEO, Sheryle Moon, writes that there’s never been a better time to go green...
Climate change is one issue that will not go away. As our nation comes to grips with the implications of global warming, technology has the potential to be a major part of the solution to our CO2 challenges.
The information and communication technology (ICT) industry is leading the way in the fight against climate change, by developing energy efficient products and clean technologies, by providing useful metrics and information, and also by enabling population decentralisation and large-scale telecommuting.
While the benefits of technology are far-reaching, we must also look for ways to reduce the amount of energy required to keep our technological devices functioning and our potential impact on the environment through e-waste.
