Energy standards for computers and monitors
Industry engagement processes

The Federal Government is currently exploring the possibility of introducing national standards and marketplace labeling for energy efficiency in computers and monitors through the Equipment Energy Efficiency Programme (E3) at the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA).

AIIA is representing the ICT sector in the industry engagement processes of the DEWHA E3 programme, and has advocated the voluntary adoption of energy star rating standards and labeling within the ICT industry. Following an AIIA submission arguing the importance of this position, the E3 team has extended consultation with major manufactures and suppliers of monitors, desktop and mobile computers in Australia on the introduction of Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) for these products.

All companies that supply monitors and computers to the Australian and NZ market are encouraged to participate in the consultation process and attend future meetings in Sydney on 17 July and 18 September 2008 where possible. For further information, please contact AIIA Corporate and Social Responsibility Manager, Josh Millen on 0417 231 137.
