AIIA elects two new board members

AIIA has two new board members, Lynda Chapman, the Managing Director of AVOGA Pty Ltd, and Martin Lack, the Director of Martin Lack and Associates.

Other members re-elected to the board are David Bohn, Managing Director and CEO of Albus Consulting Pty Ltd, Paul Brandling, Vice President and Managing Director of Hewlett-Packard South Pacific, Philip Cronin, General Manager of Intel A/NZ, Peter Kazacos, founder of KAZ Group Ltd, and John Stockbridge, Director of Brookstone Technologies Pty Ltd.

Lynda Chapman is the founder and Managing Director of AVOGA, a growing Australian IT services and consulting company. Originally from Canada, Lynda has spent more than 25 years in the Australian IT industry working as CIO at Channel 7, manager of large financial leading-edge IT projects and in sales and sales management. When nominating for the elections, she said she sought the position for continuous learning and to give back to the Australian ICT industry.

Martin Lack joined the ICT industry in 1968, formed his own company 12 years ago and now runs computer conferences across Australia. He has been a member of the AIIA Queensland Branch Committee since its inception in 1987 and has been instrumental in making the branch one the most active in Australia. His reasons for nominating were to continue his advocacy for the ICT industry and AIIA and to represent the role of state chairs and branch committees at board level.

After AIIA’s AGM each of the successful candidates took up their positions alongside the existing board members to elect office bearers for the coming year and appoint three additional directors.

The meeting elected Peter Kazacos as chairman to replace the retiring chair, John Price, and David Bohn as deputy chairman while John Stockbridge was re-elected treasurer.

Mr Kazacos said the unprecedented growth within AIIA and renewed dialogue with government made it an exciting time to take up the mantle of chairman.

“AIIA’s membership is continuing to increase and recognition is growing of the important contribution the ICT industry makes in many areas viewed as critical to national success such as economic growth, job creation, innovation, health and education,” Mr Kazacos said.

“ICT represents 5.9% of Australia’s GDP, more than the mining and the agriculture sectors, and, depending on the industry sector, underpins between one third and three quarters of productivity growth.

“ICT drives productivity and employment and provides tools to develop, share and expand knowledge though innovation, new business opportunities for export and effective and efficient delivery of health and education services,” Mr Kazacos said.

He said these messages would continue to be delivered through AIIA’s new dialogue with governments to identify areas in which the industry can collaborate with government to ensure that ICT makes the most of its role as an enabler.

The three additional directors appointed by the board are Ian Birks, the Managing Director and CEO of Ideas International, Philip Chambers, Managing Director of Fuji Xerox Australia Pty Ltd, and Kim Ford, the CEO of CSM Group Limited. John Price, Australian Country Manager of NIIT Technologies Pty Ltd will also be on the board as immediate past president.
