Export News: UK e-Borders & Identity Management Opportunities
The UK Government is about to embark on several major border and identity management enhancement projects and Austrade is seeking to introduce relevant Australian technology companies to key decision makers within these projects, including government customers, systems integrators and partners.
The new program is a follow-up to a similar highly successful initiative run by Austrade London in which Australian IT suppliers to the criminal justice market were provided with facilitated introductions to the major players in that sector.
The UK Government has set out the massive IT and support infrastructure it intends to source for the planned national identity system. The Home Office's Identity Cards program laid down its expected requirements in an information notice to potential suppliers on 11 August 2005. Formal procurements will be launched once the identity cards legislation receives Royal Assent.
The e-Borders project is expected to be worth ₤400 million while the estimated total cost of the Identity Cards program is around ₤15-20 billion.
