MYOB CEO wins prestigious ICT industry award

Craig Winkler, Chief Executive Officer of MYOB was honoured as the second recipient of the CSIRO Tony Benson award for Individual Achievement in ICT at the 2006 iAwards on 7 April.

This prestigious award, launched at last year’s iAwards is dedicated to the spirit of innovation that Tony Benson both realised and helped foster in the ICT industry.

As such, the CSIRO Tony Benson Award for Individual Achievement in ICT is presented by CSIRO to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the Australian ICT industry, in either a single, high-impact initiative or in a long-term series of successes.

During his life Tony Benson made a remarkable commitment to building the Australian ICT sector and had an extraordinary generosity of spirit that led him to spend decades promoting the local industry, in parallel to his own employments.

Mr Winkler was selected as the recipient of this award by a panel of VIP judges from CSIRO, AIIA, National ICT Australia (NICTA), the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, plus representatives from educational institutions, the ICT industry and the ICT media in Australia.

As Craig Winkler commented, “It's a great - in fact, a humbling - honour to be singled out for an award like this from an industry of innovative peers. However, I accept it on behalf of my whole team at MYOB.

“Collectively, it is the team's passion that fuels my own creativity; their drive that keeps us innovating together; and their commitment to our customers that ensures we remain focused on getting better every day.

“Australia is a great home to ICT innovation, and I'm proud to be part of both a company and an industry that together keep pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve.”

Alex Zelinsky, Director, CSIRO ICT Centre who are sponsors of this significant award, commented, “On behalf of CSIRO, I would like to extend congratulations to Craig Winkler, who is a very deserving recipient of this prestigious award.

“CSIRO is proud to be involved with this award, as we feel it is important to recognise the fine individuals who make such significant contributions to our ICT industry. Particularly fitting is the fact that this award is dedicated to Tony Benson, a man who had such great impact on the success of the ICT industry in Australia. We look forward to continuing our support for this award well into the future,” Mr Zelinsky said.
